Our vetting process explained
We don’t just list any contractor. At vettedcontractors.co.uk, each contractor goes through a rigorous, multi-step vetting process to ensure they’re reliable, qualified, and professional. Here’s how we do it:
1
Past Projects
We review real work, not just promises.
Minimum of 3 verified phone references from past clients—usually a mix of homeowners and architects.
We ask detailed questions about:
- Quality of work
- Communication and reliability
- Timeliness and budget control
2
Company Legitimacy
We only promote legally registered and financially stable businesses.
- Registered Business Check (e.g. Companies House)
- Business History Review – how long they've been trading
- VAT registration (if applicable)
- Financial & Legal Screening:
- We check for County Court Judgments (CCJs)
- We review the Insolvency Register to ensure no active liquidation or administration
3
Insurance & Compliance
Contractors must carry appropriate insurance and follow safety best practices.
- Valid Public Liability Insurance
- Employers’ Liability Insurance (if applicable)
- Professional Indemnity Insurance for those offering design or advice
- Proof of health & safety compliance (e.g. CHAS, SMAS, or equivalent)
4
Trade Credentials & Qualifications
We verify relevant accreditations and qualifications.
- Trade certifications (e.g. Gas Safe, NICEIC)
- Membership in professional bodies (e.g. Federation of Master Builders)
5
Professionalism & Conduct
We only work with contractors who take their reputation seriously. We assess communication, punctuality, and general professionalism through:
- Direct interviews with each contractor
- Optional site visits to see work in progress
6
Ongoing Monitoring
Vetting doesn’t stop after approval.
- We collect post-project feedback from clients
- Any red flags or serious complaints can lead to removal
- Contractors must maintain high standards to remain on the platform
